While setting up for the eclipse early on the morning of April 8, 2024, only high, thin clouds could be seen. It looked like a glorious day. Then a layer of low clouds moved in, blocking the sky. We kept getting things ready, hoping that the fast moving clouds would be out of the way by 1:40 pm. Thankfully, sometime around noon, those low clouds skedaddled. We did have a few more high clouds than earlier in the day and they were a bit thicker, however most of the time you could see the sun as the moon crossed the sun's disk, beginning at 12:22 pm. About 5 minutes before totality as the moon's shadow raced towards us, a cloud covered the partial eclipse. Luckily it moved out of the way in time to see the total eclipse. It was breathtaking! Everyone agreed it was worth the hype and we were very glad we got the chance to witness it.
Thanks to Patrick from the Fort Worth Astronomical Society for coming out and giving us an informative talk prior to the start of the eclipse, setting up telescopes to give us more viewing options and for capturing and sharing the photo below of totality in which you can see Venus at about 45 degrees below and to the right of the sun.
